“풍경은 그림을 그리는 사람들 뿐만 아니라 대부분의 사람들이 그러하듯, 무언가를 바라보면서 많은 것을 느끼고 생각하게 되는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 우리 앞에 펼쳐진 모든 경관들이 풍경이 될 수 있다고 생각한다. 풍경은 그림으로 그려져서 인식되는 것이 아니다. 오히려 끊임없이 변화하는 풍경 자체가 하나의 그림이다. 즉, 사람들은 어떤 그림 속에서 살고 있는 것 같다. 화랑이나 미술관에서 많은 미술품을 마주하고 지내듯이 사람들은 자기 앞에 펼쳐진 각종 경관과 마주한 상태로 장면들을 본다.”

“When people view a landscape, one has numerous feelings and thoughts and this is true not only for painters but for most of us. Any view in front of us can become a landscape. A landscape is not perceived as a painting. Rather, the endlessly changing landscape itself is a painting. That is, people seem to live in a certain painting. As people encounter numerous artworks in galleries or museums, they see all kinds of scenes in the face of different landscapes.”
