허수영은 한 권의 책을 한 점의 그림으로 만드는 작업을 시작으로 대상에 대한 수없이 많은 이미지들을 하나의 캔버스에 누적시켜왔다. 성실하게 이미지를 채워나가는 방법은 그리기 자체에 대한 도전과 자기 수련의 일환으로 시작한 것이지만, 레지던시 장소에서 바라본 1년의 풍경을 한 화면에 그리는 작업에 와서는 화면은 공간의 누적이자 시간의 누적이 되었고, 사계절 변화에 따라 경작한 풍경이 되었다.
Following the process of rendering a whole book into a single painting, Suyoung Heo overlays numerous images of different subjects onto a canvas. The almost obsessive repetition of strokes of brush filling out the canvas is per se a challenge to the act of painting as well as becoming a way of self-discipline. Throughout one year, he not only overlaid the landscape seen from the site of his residency but the canvas also became a sedimentation of changing landscape in time, as well as the image being cultivated as the four seasons passed by.
