The thing that matters to me is not the object itself but the attitude or viewpoint regarding the object. Ultimately, I hope a landscape is ‘something that makes you contemplate on the status of human and the role humans play in nature.’
It would sound pretty boring but I have considered exploring the questions of ‘where are we from, where do we go and what does it mean to die?’ to be the most worthy of all concerns. So I keep on facing this world with rather fundamental and abstract questions. The interest on what appearance we have in a given reality made me observe especially the nature and this became my motivation to deal with landscapes. At this point, I felt the disparateness between nature and human. I wanted to display the contact point of these two, that is, the relationship between nature and man.

나에게 중요한 것은 대상 자체가 아니라 대상을 대하는 태도나 시선이라고 생각한다. 그리고 궁극적으로 풍경이란 ‘자연 안에서 인간이 차지하는 위치와 역할에 대해 성찰하게 만드는 것’이길 바란다.
진부한 이야기지만 나는 ‘우리는 어디서 왔으며 무엇을 해야 하며 어디로 가는지’를 탐구하는 것을 가장 가치 있는 일로 여긴다. 그러다 보니 다소 원론적이고 추상적인 질문들에 연연하며 이 세상을 마주하고 있다. 주어진 현실 속에서 우리가 어떠한 모습으로 드러나는지에 대한 관심은 오히려 우리를 둘러싼 환경, 특히 자연의 모습을 관찰하게 만들었었는데 이것이 풍경을 다루는 계기가 되었다. 그때 느꼈던 것이 자연과 인간 사이의 이질감이었다. 이 둘의 접점, 즉 자연과 인간의 관계를 나의 풍경을 통해 담고 싶었다.
