Hwayeon Nam is dealing with diverse media including drawings and videos along with theatrical elements and artistic imagination. Nam considers drawing as a choreography on paper visualizing the process of thoughts.
Hwayeon Nam lives and works in Berlin and Seoul. She graduated from Cornell University and M.F.A. in the Korean National University of Arts. She has been participated in various exhibitions and performances including 2009 Hermes Foundation Missulsang, Atelier Hermes (2009), Oblique Strategies, Kukje Gallery (2010), Move: on the spot, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (2012), Playtime, Culture Station Seoul 284 (2012), Operation Play, Arko Arts Theater, Festival Bo:m (2010).

남화연은 드로잉이나 영상과 같은 다양한 매체에 작가적인 상상력과 함께 연극적인 요소가 결부된 작업을 해오고 있다. 작가는 드로잉을 종이 위에서 행해지는 일종의 코레오그래피로 여기며 사고의 진행과정을 시각화한다.
남화연은 코넬 대학교를 나와 한국예술종합학교 미술원에서 예술전문사 과정을 졸업하였다. 독일과 한국을 오가면서 활동하는 남화연은 «에르메스 미술상»(아뜰리에 에르메스, 2009), «우회전략»(국제갤러리, 2010), «무브 위크엔드: 온 더 스팟»(국립현대미술관, 2012), «플레이타임»(문화역서울 284, 2012) 등의 전시에 참여했으며, «오퍼레이셔널 플레이»(페스티벌 봄, 아르코 예술극장, 2010)와 «이태리의 정원»(페스티벌 봄, 백성희 장민호 극장, 2012) 등의 극장 작업을 하였다.
