Hyunmi Yoo’s works attempt to actually offer to the audience, the illusion of the act of drawing and of the way of seeing paintings. Hyun Mi Yoo’s three-dimensional space by odd composition and assembly offers unrealistic experiences similar to meeting celebrities in real life, which brings confusion of viewers’ perception.
Hyunmi Yoo who was born in Seoul, graduated from the Department of Sculpture in Art College of Seoul National University. Later she majored Fine Art in New York University, and graduated from its graduate school. She participated in Liverpool Biennale, Bangladesh Biennale, Daegu Photo Biennale. Her works are collected by Seoul Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Ilmin Art Museum, Amore Pacific, Posco. She won the top award at the eighth art contest held by Amos Eno Gallery in 1993, the 5th Moran Sculpture Grand-Prix 2001 and the 3rd Ilwoo Photography Prize in 2012. As her publication there are Artmap and Walking Tree.

유현미의 작업은 그린다는 행위와 그림을 보는 방식에 대한 환영을 실제로 관객에게 제공하는 시도를 한다. 유현미의 3차원적인 공간은 사물의 기이한 조합과 구성으로 실재임에도 비현실적으로 보이게 하고, 우리의 인식이 야기하는 불완전함과 모호함을 드러내며, 보는 이의 지각을 교란시킨다.
서울에서 태어나 서울대학교 미대에서 학사를, 뉴욕대학(NYU)에서 석사를 받았다. 영국 리버풀 비엔날레(2008), 방글라데시 비엔날레(2012), 대구 사진비엔날레(2010) 등에 참가하였으며, 서울시립미술관, 경기도미술관, 일민미술관, 아모레퍼시픽, 포스코 등에 작품이 설치되어 있다. 일우사진상(2012), 모란미술상(2001), 아모스에노(1993) 미술상을 받았으며 저서로는 『아트맵』과『나무걷다』등이 있다.
