“저는 비형상 작가는 아니에요. 사실 형상 없이 형상을 추구하지만, 그 무언가를 추구해요. 형태로 나타나든지 아니면 컬러필드로 나타나든지요. 제 추상 작업의 출발은 그 지점이지만 종착지는 잘 몰라요. 오히려 반대로 완성된 그림이 제게 가르쳐 주는거죠. … 작가는 새로운 작품을 창작할 때마다 동일한 강도의 상태에 있지 않으면, 어떤 진보나 발전을 거듭하는 작가로서 다양한 담론이 형성되는 과정 가운데 있을 수 없다고 봐요. 그래야 해명이나 탐색이 따라오는 것 같아요. 끊임없이 그렇게 될 때만이 작업이라는 것이 온전하게, 아니면 미미하게나마 읽혀질 수 있다고 봐요.”

“I’m not a non-figurative artist. I do pursue the form without the form; however, I seek something beyond that, whether they appear as form, or as colored planes. This is where my (abstract) works start, but I don’t know where they end, or are headed for. I’m left in a situation where my final product guides me where I am and should be.”
