정유선의 회화는 자신의 내면 탐구에서 출발한다. 검고 공허한 눈, 테이블 위에 축 늘어져 있는 창백한 몸뚱아리, 기형적인 신체, 이러한 도상들은 작가가 가진 특유의 거침없는 상상력에서 나오며 작은 화면이지만 강한 감정을 불러일으킨다. 최근 정유선의 관심사는 사랑하는 존재의 죽음에 대한 것인데, 전시에 출품된 작품들은 반려묘를 의료사고로 잃은 후 죽음이 불러일으키는 감정적 메타포들을 표현한 것들이 많다. 작가는 인간이 가지는 감정을 명암으로 나누어봤을 때, 밝은 감정은 가볍고 재빠른 반면 어두운 감정은 무겁고 느리다고 생각한다. 그리고 이 무겁고 느린 감정을 회화로 표현하고자 한다.
Yu Sun Jung’s painting starts from investigating her inner self. Black and empty eyes, the pale body leaning over a table and deformed physicality are icons of her intense imaginations evoking powerful feelings regardless of each painting’s moderate scale. Jung’s recent interest lays in the death of beloved figures and the works often convey emotional metaphors suscitated by the death; such as of her cat who died due to medical failure. Jung defines human sentiments comparing to the brightness of shades: positive feelings as to be lightweight and swift, while negative ones as heavy and slow. The latter become motifs that attract her to be visualized in her paintings.
