“대상에 대해서 느끼는 감정은 주로 촉각에 관련한 것이었어요. 촉각을 드러내려면 붓질이 남아야 하잖아요. 그래서 한번에 그려야겠다고 생각했어요. 형태는 빔 프로젝터를 이용해서 기계적인 방법으로 화면에 옮기고, 채색할 때 제 감각은 마치 그 사람을 애무하는 것처럼 붓질에 집중합니다. 내가 그 또는 그녀를 어루만지는 것 같은 느낌이 들면서 그리기의 쾌감을 거의 처음으로 느꼈어요. … 하나의 스타일로 규정 되는 것 같아서 ‘사실주의’ 화가라는 말을 저 스스로는 쓰지 않아요. 꼭 좋게 볼 수 있는 말도 아니고요. 저는 ‘아카데믹’한 화가라는 표현이 좋아요. 아카데믹하게 회화를 더 이해하고 파헤치고자 하는 화가라는 표현이 좋습니다.”

“What I sense from my subjects is mainly related to that of the touch. To leave the texture, the artist has to leave brushstroke marks on canvas. So I didn’t layer my paints, and painted in single strokes. I used a beam projector, a mechanical method, to lay my sketches on the canvas, and when I focus on painting, as if I were caressing a person, while making love. It was that pleasure that I was able to get (while painting), as if I was physically touching him or her in foreplay. … I don’t prefer to be categorized as a realist (artist); therefore I refrain from using the term myself. I’d like to be known as an academic (artist). I’d enjoy the description where people would call me an artist who tries to explore deeper and understand more.”
