“한국의 그림이 별다른 것은 아닙니다. 그림이나 모든 문화가 한 물질에 의해서 반응되어 나오는 것이죠. 즉, 반응이 그림이나 문화로 흘러나온다고 봅니다. 한국의 좋은 토양, 아름다운 금수강산, 사계절에 대해서 반응을 자연발생적으로 표현하는 것입니다. … 정신성이라고 하는 것은 붓을 입필 했을 때 농담, 농묵, 그리고 강한 것이 있으면 연한 것이 있고, 이것들을 조화시키는 것입니다. 역량의 조화니까요. 가장 중요한 것은 내가 붓으로 나의 정신성을 어떻게 표현해 내는가 입니다.”

“Paintings in Korea aren’t so different from others. I personally think paintings, or culture, as a matter of fact, are responses to a certain subject. The response is given as form of paintings or culture. The quality, fertile soil, the beautiful rivers and mountains, and the distinctive four seasons that we have in Korea; art (or culture) is a response to all that happen natural. … The spiritual thing (geist) here is to intricately balance out the accents or the softness, lights and shades, etc., after engagement with the work. The most important thing, however, is how to express my geist with brush.”
