“나는 추상과 구상을 크게 구분하지 않는다. 나에게는 작가의 성격을 드러내는 것이 중요하기 때문이다. 내 작품들을 보면 시각적으로는 매우 달라 보이지만 행위에 대한 성격, 즉 붓의 움직임 혹은 속도는 비슷하다. 나에게 이상적인 작업은 추상이다. 풍경화, 혹은 인물화라고 말하면 이미 선입견이 생긴다. 하지만 나에게 가장 이상적인 세상은 풍경이든 인물이든 추상이든 상관없이 작가의 성격을 보여주는 세상이다.”

“I don’t make much of a distinction between abstract and representational. Because for me, it is important to reveal the artist’s character. When viewing my works, you could find that they look quite different visually but the character of the action, that is, the movement of the brush or its speed is similar. The ideal work for me is abstraction. When you call it landscape painting or portrait, preconceptions begin to set in. The most ideal world is the world that shows the artist’s character notwithstanding the object, whether it is a landscape, figure or abstract form.”
