유한숙의 작업은 클래식한 영화 포스터의 형식을 띠는데, 일상의 단상을 기록한 언어가 이미지의 직접적인 발단이 된다. 유한숙의 언어와 이미지의 병치는 충돌이 발생하는 지점으로서, 디시인사이드와 같은 인터넷 공간상에서 게시글과 첨부 이미지의 결합이 교묘한 감정과 해석을 일으키는 인터넷 짤방 문화를 연상시킨다. 작업 중에는 불확실한 현재를 살아가는 젊은 예술가로서 작가 자신을 향한 것도 있고 타인을 향한 것도 있지만, 유한숙은 구체적인 메시지로서가 아니라 이미지와 텍스트가 서로를 적절히 뒷받침하기도 하고 어긋나기도 하면서 다양한 해석으로 잃히기를 희망한다.
Hansook Yoo’s work appropriates the aesthetics of conventional movie posters, similar to Jo Song’s approach where their images are born from the linguistic records of everyday thoughts. But Yoo’s juxtaposed image and text build a kind of conflict and tension, reminding memes presenting the specific combination of image and text in Korean web communities such as dcinside.com, made to provoke equivocal interpretations and black humor. The image and text combinations in Yoo’s work sometimes depict herself as young artist facing her uncertain reality or direct to the others; yet the statements don’t indicate specific messages but remain open to different possibilities of reading while the elements support or contradict each other.
